Gain your Driver CPC in Kent
Driver CPC stands for Driver Certificate of Professional Competence.
It is a qualification that must be gained by anyone that wants to drive a bus or lorry as a working profession.
Without completing your Driver CPC you will not be able to drive under ‘hire and reward’ and be able to work as a lorry or bus/coach driver.
To drive as a professional lorry or bus drive you must hold a valid Driver CPC qualification code.
To gain your DriverCPC qualification, you must:
Complete the Initial Driver CPC Course
For people who have never had a DriverCPC qualification card before this must be completed to gain your DriverCPC
Renew your Periodic / 35hr Driver CPC - every 5 years
For people that have already passed the DriverCPC Qualification and need to renew their five (5) case study modules or hold ‘grandfather’ rights on a Cat. C1 or D1 licence.
Initial Driver CPC
Initial DriverCPC is for candidates that need to gain their DriverCPC card for the very first time and have never sat periodic training / 35 hours course.
To attain your Initial Driver CPC qualification you must complete two modules plus a practical 3 hour Training Course.

Module 2 - Case Studies DVSA Theory Test
This is the theory test element of the course. The test is made up of 7 case studies you work through on a computer.
The case studies are short stories based on situations that you’re likely to come across in your working life.
You’ll be asked between 6 and 8 multiple-choice questions on each case study. The test lasts for 1 hour and 15 minutes, and the pass mark is 40 out of 50.

Many people who train with us and book our Starter Pack which includes the Module 1a & 1B theory tests. We can bolt the Module 2 case study on to the same day of the other theory tests, saving you making multiple trips.
Module 4 - Practical Demonstration DVSA Test
This is an interactive vehicle walk around with an official DVSA examiner / approved assessor.
To take the Module 4 test you must have already completed and passed your Module 2 Case Studies element of Driver CPC.
Module 4 is a practical demonstration with a DVSA approved assessor or DVSA examiner around a bus or lorry (depending on the type of Driver CPC course you have chosen).
You’re tested on being able to:
- load the vehicle following safety rules and to keep it secure
- stop trafficking in illegal immigrants
- assess emergency situations
- reduce physical risks to yourself or others
- do a walkaround vehicle safety check
The test is made up of 5 topics from the Driver CPC syllabus. You can score up to 20 points for each topic.
To pass your Module 4 test you have to score at least 15 out of 20 in each topic area and have an overall score of at least 80 out of 100.
Module 4 - Practical Training Course (3 hours)
Renew your Periodic / 35hr Driver CPC - every 5 years
Periodic DriverCPC training is for people who already hold a DriverCPC qualification and need to renew.
You do NOT need to undertake 35 hour training to gain your DriverCPC card for the first time. To get your DriverCPC card for the first time you need to do the Initial DriverCPC.
You must do 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years to keep your Driver Certificate of Professional Competence ( CPC ) to drive a lorry, bus or coach. You can be fined up to £1,000 for driving professionally without Driver CPC.
You are required to attend five classroom courses usually based over 7 hours per day.
